The SFO serves the San Francisco Bay Area, and facilitates the arrival of millions of visitors each and every singly year. Prior to the flight ban due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the airport was averaging 50+ million flyers a year! Interestingly, eve during the pandemic, the airport handled between 16 and 25 million passengers!
This airport has slowly risen to the top and has even been considered amongst the top 25 busiest airports in the world, amongst the top 10 in the country, and the second in its own state after LAX Airport.
With knowledge of the amount of visitors the airport handles per year, it is not surprising to find out that airlines at the airport operate nearly half a million flights yearly! This means that they amount to an average of 1,255 daily!
The airlines that operate at the SFO do so from one, or more, of the four available terminals. The terminals labeled one through three are those that operate flights within the States and to and from Canada. The fourth terminal is the International Terminal, which, as the name implies, handles international flights.
Airline based in San Francisco
The airport is also a hub for two of the biggest airlines in the country – United Airlines and Alaska Airlines. These two airline companies serve the airport well as they handle a large portion of the most popular domestic and international destinations.
United Airlines operates from Terminal 3 and the International Terminal, and it operates all ten of the busiest destinations within the country. Internationally, the airline operates nine out of ten of the busiest destinations.
Meanwhile, Alaska Airlines operates from Terminal 2 only. Similar to the former airline, this company also operates nine out of ten of the busiest domestic destinations.
